Fire Relief; the concert for Central Texas

By Nick Landis on Friday Oct, 7th 2011

Monday, October 17 at 6:30 p.m. Frank Erwin Center Austin, Texas George Strait, Dixie Chicks, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Asleep at the Wheel, and special guests Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, Christopher Cross, Texas Tornados, Randy Rogers and Terri Hendrix will perform at Fire Relief: The Concert for Central Texas Oct. 17 at the Frank Erwin Center. “Friday Night Lights” Emmy® award-winning actor Kyle Chandler will emcee along with writer, actor and director Turk Pipkin.

The University of Texas, Frank Erwin Center, The Messina Group, Austin Community Foundation and the star-studded lineup of Texas musicians organized the concert to help raise money for victims of the central Texas wildfires that destroyed 34,000 acres and more than 1,500 homes. Losses are estimated to reach $250 million, and the fires outside Bastrop destroyed more homes than any wildfire in Texas history. Many of the short-term needs of the people affected by the fires have already been met; the goal of Fire Relief is to help them with long-term issues and problems, such as regaining their livelihoods. All of the net proceeds will be dispersed to central Texas community organizations and charities via the Central Texas Wildfire Fund at the Austin Community Foundation.
