Starting in the new 2020 year prize cycle, the Pulitzer Prize Board will award a new Pulitzer Prize for excellence in Audio Journalism. The new prize will be awarded for "for a distinguished example of audio journalism that serves the public interest, characterized by revelatory reporting and illuminating storytelling." Journalists in the United States will be eligible to enter if their publication regularly publishes stories in audio format. This will include many podcasters and radio programs as well as more traditional newspapers that have a multimedia presence online. For the 2020 awards cycle, the story must have aired in the 2019 calendar year and submissions are due by January 24th.
What better way to announce the new audio prize than with some audio, here is Pulitzer administrator Dana Canedy announcing the new Audio Reporting category for the Pulitzer Prize.
