International Standard Name Identifier is new metadata to resolve name ambiguity for contributors to creative works. This number can define a person, like a writer, artist, performer, producer, etc., or it can define an organization, like publishers, studios, aggregators, etc.. It is part of the ISO global standards and ties into other metadata in the music industry, like ISRC, and other industries metadata, like ISBN etc. It is a cross-domain resource with direct contributions from over 40 sources. The database already holds over 9 million identities.
Last week, I got my ISNI and shared a talk with high school students at a Grammy Career Day in Richardson, TX. I showed the students a RIN-M metadata file with my info in it and proudly displayed my ISNI. Looking forward to keeping up with these new metadata standards.
