In my years as a music publisher I’ve had the honor of working with hit-songwriters to beginning songwriters, singer-songwriters and musician-songwriters.  Many of them have shared with me their journey and stories of dealing with music publishers, recording artists, record label executives, and their statements of mis-information and even worse. . . stories of unpaid royalties.

Today is my 6th Anniversary of being hired full-time at Terra Nova Mastering. As chance would have it, it’s also the birthday of a convenience store with a particularly famous (free on this day) frozen refreshment. I stopped in on my way home from work and treated myself to the drink. It always reminds me of middle school bike rides home from school. . .

We just pressed our first CDs that feature a QR code on the packaging. When the artist, songwriter Tonya Tyner, handed in her artwork, I didn't even know what the black and white square on the back of the digipak was. Now it seems like I am seeing them everywhere. When she told me that it was readable by smart phones and that you could have it link to a variety of functions, I thought it sounded like a great idea.

Due to Lack of Registrations We Will NOT be able to hold the Pickin' for the Record II Attempt which had been rescheduled for 26 June 2011

Despite FREE Registration for the past months we have fewer than 400 folks registered as of 23 May 2011 and this is simply not enough to make this effort succeed.

When preparing your mixes for a mastering session, we typically get the question, "Should I take the L2 and compressor off the mix bus?"  My first thoughts run through my head like asking why or what are you doing. . . but I refrain myself.
